Graphic Design Programs at Tiffin University

Tiffin University offers graphic design degree programs for undergrads and graduate students that allow them to take classes in Ohio and online. The digital media and design program focuses on the development of apps and programs and allows students to use their graphic design skills to create those projects. It features 39 credits of major courses, including Digital Mixed Media, Web Design, Digital Photography, Interactive Digital Design and Internet and Website Development. Students can take electives too such as Introduction to Technical Writing, Introduction to Digital Media and Digital Video I and II. Undergrads can display their work in the on-campus gallery too.

Graduate students can also earn a Master of Humanities in Art and Visual Media from Tiffin University. This program asks students to change the way they think about art as they both view and create new work. Students can graduate in 18 to 30 months. They’ll have the chance to take unique courses such as Women and Art and The Graphic Novel. Students can start at the beginning of any session and take all their graduate courses online. They will do a final project before they graduate, which allows them to use their graphic design and online art skills.

The program includes 18 credits of core classes and allows students to pick from 12 options. They can select the courses that match both their interests can career goals. One course called Teaching College Art prepares students to teach in a college or university setting. Classic Hollywood Cinema is another available class, which lets students watch classic movies and discuss them before writing papers on those films. At the end of the program, students can opt to take a comprehensive exam rather than do a final project. This exam will test them on the things they learned in all their classes. The program starts in January, May, and August each year and includes 15-week classes.

About Tiffin University

Tiffin University is a small university in Ohio named after the city of Tiffin. Established in 1888, it originally had an affiliation with Heidelberg College. Heidelberg opened Commercial College as a new institution that offered business courses and programs. In 1917, the Commercial College separated from Heidelberg and adopted the name Tiffin University after moving to a new spot in the city. As a separate institution, the university gained regional accreditation and developed programs outside of business. It now offers programs through the School of Arts and Sciences, School of Business and School of Criminal Justice and Social Sciences. Tiffin also offers four graduate degree programs with multiple concentrations, all of which are available online.

The Tiffin University campus is roughly an hour from Toledo in northwestern Ohio. It is within walking distance of downtown Tiffin, which offers restaurants, shops, movie theaters and other options for students. Several men played football at Tiffin before playing in the National Football League. Others began their political careers at the university, including Sandra Williams who is a State Representative and Jeffrey McClain who is in the House of Representatives. Tiffin University has an enrollment of more than 4,200 students across all campuses, including those in Toledo, Cleveland and other parts of Ohio.

Tiffin University Accreditation Details

At Tiffin University, students can get financial aid packages when they complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which they can access at the beginning of October. The university can award government aid because it has regional accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). That accreditation comes through the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCACS). It is the same accreditation that lets Tiffin accept transfer credits from students who submit official college or university transcripts. The university’s business programs also have accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).

Tiffin University Application Requirements

The admissions team working for Tiffin can help students understand the application process and apply. Students need to answer some basic questions to create the accounts that they’ll use when applying, including their full names and home addresses. Students need either a high school diploma or its equivalent. The university also accepts undergrads who attended college before. They need a minimum grade point average of 2.25 too. Tiffin asks incoming freshmen to submit their school transcripts and a standardized test score after they apply.

Prospective graduate students need a bachelor’s degree in a related field. Those applying to the MH program need either an undergraduate degree in graphic design/art or a strong background in art. The university gives priority to students who maintained a GPA of 3.0 in their undergrad classes but does not require a set GPA. Once they create admissions accounts, they can use the application. It asks them to upload a copy of their most recent resume and to write a personal statement. The statement should explain why they want to study art or visual media and how Tiffin can help them meet their future goals.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Undergrads attending Tiffin University pay $857 per credit hour for part-time enrollment. Full-time students pay $25,710 each year. They only face higher costs if they take more than 18 credit hours of classes in one or both semesters. Those living on-campus must purchase a meal plan. Plans range from $1,860 a year for 75 meals to $5,360 each year for unlimited meals. Tiffin has residence halls with rates that start at $5,560 each year too. All graduate programs are available online but charge different rates. Students in the MH program pay $550 per credit hour for part-time enrollment or $15,750 each year for full-time enrollment.

Tiffin encourages students to look at and apply for scholarships before they take out any loans. The trustee scholarship gives students $14,000 a year, and the green and gold grant awards students $6,000 a year. Students in the military qualify for reduced rates of $250 to $325 per credit hour for undergraduate and graduate classes. Other discounts go to students and the children of people who work for certain partner organizations, but the discounts awarded vary based on those employers. The graphic design programs at Tiffin University also allow students to use aid from the federal or state government, including the Pell grant and student loans.
