Central Georgia Technical College offers degrees, diplomas and certificates in design and media production for students who want to study graphic design. The college’s design and media production specialist certificate program awards graduates a technical certificate that shows they have graphic design experience. It includes just four classes that students can take in a single semester and is open to anyone with a high school diploma or GED. Those classes include Introduction to Design and Vector Graphics. The college also offers a technical certificate in motion graphics assistant.

The associate degree in design and media production offered by Central Georgia Technical College includes 15 credits of general education classes and 19 credits of occupational courses. Students learn how to design and produce work in the occupational classes, which include Raster Imaging, Vector Graphics and Introduction to Design. The college offers many electives that these majors can take too, including Introduction to Video Production, Visual Merchandising, Special Projects, Visual Effects, and Basic 3D Modeling and Animation. Students who want to gain even more experience can do an internship through the college too.

A diploma program is available for design and media production majors that includes only 46 credits of courses. This program includes 19 credits of occupational classes and 19 credits of post production courses. Those classes might include Introduction to Media Technology, Intermediate Video Editing, Integrated Marketing Communication, Basic Video Editing and Working with Microsoft Windows. The college offers both a diploma and a degree in web design and development which is offered on campus or online. Majors in those classes will take classes such as Introduction to Computer Literacy, Interactive and Social Apps Integration, Mobile Application Development and Open Source Web Applications. Students can also enroll in the college’s interdisciplinary studies major, which allows them to take graphic design courses and classes from other areas.

About Central Georgia Technical College

Central Georgia Technical College is a public technical college in Georgia that has multiple campuses across the state. Founded in 1962 as a vocational school, it originally used the name Macon Area Vocational – Technical School. This school became the Macon Technical Institute in 1990 and took over the Baldwin County Adult Center, which led to a rise in its enrollment. It became part of the Technical College System of Georgia. This system voted and approved a merger of the college with the Middle Georgia Technical College, which now makes it one of the largest technical colleges in the south.

Called CGTC for short, the college now has three large campuses in Macon, Milledgeville and Warner Robbins. Each of those campuses offers full degree programs and options that let students earn diplomas and certificates. CGTC also six regional centers that let students get help before enrolling in a degree program. The college’s enrollment of more than 6,000 students includes many non-traditional learners.

Central Georgia Technical College Accreditation Details

CGTC has regional accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), which has a Commission on Colleges (COC) that is responsible for ensuring that schools maintain the minimum requirements for accreditation. Any student can submit the FAFSA and get financial aid because of SACS accreditation. Some of the other accreditations the college has cover its programs in automotive technology, cardiovascular technology, dental hygiene, electrical systems technology, and pharmacy technology.

Central Georgia Technical College Application Requirements

The application that prospective CGTC students use is available online or as a PDF. If a student chooses the PDF, he or she will need to download or save the application and then print it out. The student needs to make sure each section is complete before sending it to the college. Most students choose the online application because they can instantly submit it after finishing the application. There is a $25 application fee too. The college allows students to use a credit or debit card to pay the fee online. They can also visit the college and pay the application fee in person.

In addition to the application, CGTC asks students to fill out two other forms. The first is a student agreement form that shows the student agrees to follow the rules of the college if accepted. They will then fill out a form that states they have the right to live, work and study in the United States. The college asks for official transcripts from all students or proof that the student earned a GED rather than finishing high school. All incoming CGTC students must take a placement test too and make arrangements to take the test on the college’s campus. This test helps students either test out of certain areas or see where they need to start in those subjects.

Tuition and Financial Aid

The CGTC cost of attendance includes tuition and fees. This cost starts at $89 for tuition and $321 in fees for a total of $410 for the first credit hour. The fees remain the same, no matter how many classes they take though. A Georgia resident can take 15 credits of classes and pay a total of $1,656 per semester. Nonresidents pay $178 per credit hour and fees that bring their costs up to $2,991 per semester if they take 15 credits in a semester.

Georgia residents can qualify for the state’s HOPE scholarship or grant. Though this program does not apply to their fees, it reduces their costs down to $16 per credit hour. Flexible payment plans allow students to pay $30 to $40 to start the program. If they do not make a down payment, they’ll make four equal payments during the semester. The college allows students to make a down payment equal to one-fourth or one-third of what they owe and make three to four equal payments during the semester.

CGTC students can also get financial aid from the state and/or federal government. They just need to fill out the FAFSA online and include the college’s school code as well as their social security numbers, full names, addresses and dates of birth. The form asks for their tax returns or their parents’ returns too. Pell grants and students loans go to students who use the FAFSA.
