1. What is Photoshop?
Adobe Photoshop is a photo and graphics editing program that is distributed by Adobe Systems. In earlier history, 1987 to be exact, a Phd student named Thomas Knoll developed a program to display grayscale images on a monochrome display, which he coincidentally called Display. His brother John found his program very interesting and wanted to work with Thomas to improve it’s functions. In 1988, Thomas and John teamed up together to fine tune Design so it would become a complete image editing system. The original name for this updated program was to be ImagePro, but since that name was already taken, the two brothers decided on Photoshop. The first distribution of Photoshop was with a scanner manufacturer named Barneyscan, which distributed a total of 200 copies. Later that year, John demonstrated the program to both Apple and Adobe. Adobe purchased the license to distribute Photoshop in September 1988. The first Photoshop version, Photoshop 1.0, was released on February 19, 1990 and was an exclusive Macintosh product. Today, Photoshop can be purchased as a single product, part of an Adobe Creative Suite Package, or Photoshop Creative Cloud Version.
