Graphic Design Degrees in Delaware
Students interested in pursuing graphic design degrees in Delaware might be surprised by the remarkable programs available. At first glance, this small coastal state may seem like an unusual place to pursue graphic design. But, the arts are thriving in Delaware. According to a recent survey by Americans for the Arts, the arts support nearly 3000 full time jobs in the First State. Delaware College of Art and Design
Delaware College of Art and Design, the state’s only professional art and design school, was founded in 1996 as a unique collaboration between New York’s Pratt Institute and Washington, D.C.’s the Corcoran College of Art and Design. Dedicated to teaching artists how to function successfully in a competitive field, the college offers six associates degrees for students looking to find their career in art. For established professionals who wish to enrich their skill set, DCAD’s Continuing Education courses provide a way to earn certificates in graphic design, art and design, photography, web design, and interior design. The college also runs a Pre-College Art Studio program for high school juniors and seniors. Students spend a week living and working at DCAD, preparing for the college admission process in art and design programs.
Associate of Fine Arts
College students participating in the Delaware College of Art and Design’s Associate of Fine Arts degree program have their choice of six majors. They can focus on graphic design, animation, illustration, fine arts, photography, or interior design. The two-year programs, which are accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design, combine liberal arts classes with courses in art and design to provide a comprehensive, yet concise curriculum that provides the knowledge and skills students will need to compete in today’s job market. To receive their associates degree, students must complete a minimum of 68 credits. This consists of at least 24 credits in liberal arts coursework and at least 43 credits of studio coursework. After earning their degree, students have the option of entering the job market or continuing their education by transferring to a Bachelor of Fine Arts program at Pratt, the Corcoran, or another art school.

At the University of Delaware’s College of Arts and Sciences, students learn through discovery learning, a form of experiential education. The oldest and biggest of the university’s seven colleges, the College of Arts and Sciences has 23 academic departments and more than two dozen interdisciplinary programs and centers that provide students with opportunities to learn about the arts, the social sciences, the natural sciences, and the humanities. Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Communications
The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Communications degree program at the University of Delaware’s College of Arts and Sciences strives to produce graduates who can transform the world with the power of ideas by using small class sizes and intensive studio coursework to teach students to develop skills, harness their creativity, and design in multimedia. The four-year program builds on an initial year of foundational art courses with a three-year curriculum for the major that consists of classroom and studio work, internships, and study abroad opportunities. To earn their Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Communications degrees, students must complete a total of at least 124 credits. This includes a minimum of 77 credits in art courses and at least 34 credits that fulfill the standards of the college breadth requirements. Graduates who have received their degrees are prepared for professional positions in graphic design, advertising, illustration, digital media, and motion graphics.

They will also be prepared to continue their education, since their associates degree is the foundation for Wilmington University’s bachelor’s degree programs in media design, video and motion graphics, and game design and development.
