About Lakeshore Technical College

Lakeshore Technical College originated in 1911 when the State Board of Industrial Education founded the Manitowoc, Two Rivers, and Sheboygan Vocational Schools under Chapter 616. In 1917, the Smith-Hughes Act passed Congress and expanded Wisconsin’s vocational training funds. In 1929, the Washington School on 13th Street was purchased for the Manitowoc Vocational School. In 1933, the University of Wisconsin Extension Division moved its courses here for three decades. Growth was immediate after President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the GI Bill on June 22, 1944. By 1961, the State Legislature authorized the addition of two-year associate degrees. On July 1, 1967, Lakeshore Technical College was formed by merging the three vocational schools for VTAE District 11. First accredited in 1973, LTC opened its present 164-acre Cleveland campus in July 1974. In 1993, Lakeshore officially joined the 16-member Wisconsin Technical College System.

Lakeshore Technical College Accreditation Details

On May 12, 2015, the Higher Learning Commission on North Central Association (HLC-NCA) Institutional Actions Council sent a formal notification letter to Lakeshore Technical College that extended the Level I accreditation status through 2024-25 under its fourth president, Dr. Paul Carlsen, who accepted a Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development Grant. Located 157 miles down Interstate 43 in Chicago, Illinois, this giant 19-state Great Lakes Region accreditor is authorized by the U.S. Department of Education to continually review LTC’s 37 associate and 117 certificate options from Manitowoc to Sheboygan Falls.

Lakeshore Technical College Application Requirements

Getting into Lakeshore Technical College is classified “least selective” by the U.S. News & World Report because 100 percent of the 827 Fall 2017 entrants had open access. First-year students seeking the Associate of Applied Science in Graphic & Web Design still must culminate an accredited high school diploma or the GED. General Education Development tests should be graded 165 or better for college readiness. Minimum GPAs aren’t published, but 2.0 or higher is suggested. Taking the Writing, Reading, and Arithmetic sections of the Accuplacer is usually required. Waivers are available for undergrads with minimum 530 SAT Math and 480 SAT Reading scores. The same holds true for ACT marks above 23 English and 22 Math. Students can transfer up to 75 percent of associate credits if graded “C” or better. Non-native English speakers must exceed the 550 paper, 213 computer, or 65 internet TOEFL mark.

Lakeshore Technical College allows rolling admission to apply anytime year-round. Note both Graphic & Web Design Departments have August start dates. For scholarship consideration, prospective students must file between January 21st and March 18th. International students generally must submit materials by June 1st.
