The future is now. We are in the thick of the technology era, and it is not ending anytime soon. There has never been a better time to build the foundation for web development career. For those of you who have kept this dream on the back burner due to financial insecurities, here are five scholarships designed to help fund web development degrees.
Generation Google Scholarship
Most of use use Google every single day. We browse the web with Google Chrome, make our ways through foreign lands with Google Translate, rely on Google Scholar to write that perfect term paper, and the list goes on and on. Did you know that you can also search Google for college scholarship money? The Generation Google Scholarship offers $10,000 per year in college tuition to budding computer scientists. There are separate awards for high school seniors and current undergraduates who are enrolled in full-time programs and demonstrate a commitment to furthering the computer science community.
Apple Worldwide Developer’s Conference Scholarship
Are you team Apple or team Microsoft? Either way, there is a scholarship for you. Two, if you are willing to play for both teams. To start, Apple offers an annual Worldwide Developer’s Conference (WWDC) Scholarship. While this does not pay for school directly, it pays for an invaluable opportunity to gain early access to networking, experience and resources that might result in a job right out of college. Winners of this scholarship receive admission to the WWDC, lodging for the duration of the event, and a free year of membership in the Apple Developer Program.
Microsoft Scholarship Program
Not to be outdone, the Microsoft Scholarship Program also offers two amazing opportunities. The Microsoft Tuition Scholarship provides undergraduate computer science students with generous sums of tuition money. Eligible applicants must have at least a 4.0 grade point average. The Diversity Conference Scholarship rewards computer science students at all educational levels with $1200 towards attendance, travel, lodging, and meals at one of these fantastic events: the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing, the National Society of Black Engineers Conference, the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers Conference, or the Tapia Conference.
DesignCrowd Scholarship for Innovation
The DesignCrowd Scholarship for Innovation is a great chance to gain some experience, show off your talents, and get paid to do it. A $1000 prize will be awarded to a student who presents their portfolio at a conference or event of their choice in logo design, web development, or digital art. Eligible applicants must also be enrolled in accredited degree programs. The winner will also have their work featured on the DesignCrowd website.
eSchoolView Web Design and Development Scholarships
eSchoolView is committed to helping eight students per year fund their web development education. One student will receive $5000, two will receive $2500 each, and five will receive $1000 each. These Web Design and Development Scholarships are open to high school seniors getting ready to attend accredited programs. This is a merit-based award which requires applicants to create an original home or internal page for a school-based activity website.
Concluding Thoughts

Not only are web developers in high demand with our increasing dependence on computer technology, but it is also easier than ever to pay for college without drowning in student loans.
